IN PROGRESS
Firearms
In the 26th century, firearms seem to look close to (or rather exactly) as they are modern-day. One notable change is the use of caseless ammunition on many of the 'mid-range' weapons -- standard 'cartridge' weapons with the expected number of shots, but no brass flying out the side of the gun. Chemical propulsion systems are used to fire with. This allowed with an increased ammo capacity and a rate of fire on guns that you wouldn't normally expect from.
A somewhat archaic gun law resides over the possession and use of firearms in the 'Verse. Originally initiated to reduce the number of guns available to the public, however a provision was made that allowed "pre-ban" weaponry to be exempt from the controls placed over the public. Presumably this law has been in effect for a few hundred years now, grandfathered in by the Alliance and its respective territories.
Naturally there are a lot of counterfeit 'antique' guns, even to the extent of some having faked serial numbers and what not to pass cursory checks. Like wise the legislation allows guns remanufactured using pre-ban parts/models. Obviously, only the Alliance government is above such restrictions, reason to why their weapons are so dramatically 'refined'.
Ships
Most common ship's held for anyone not privileged underneath the Alliance's grace are pretty much restricted to access of junkers. Most ships are old, lived in, and more often than not...falling apart. Industrialization and assembly line manufacturing has brought the era of space travel to have many ships assembled out of parts that could easily be taken and used as a replacement for a ship of a similar make and model.
For the same reasons most of the quality is lacking. Companies instead preferring the age old quantity over quality in producing their products. Ships repairs can be costly, and between the decadent state of most transports and how often ships tend to burn through fuel it is a hard life for a captain and her/his crew to purchase a ship and keep it flying. This is challenged even further with how rare work comes by that would allow a crew to keep up payments to support their mobile abode.
Faster-Than-Light Travel
Simply put in this setting. FTL Travel does not exist.
Terrain Transport
Most vehicles in the setting are very similar to modern-day. Cars, Vans, Trucks, Motorcycles all exist. However most wheel-carried transports are looked upon as outdated by the common populace even if their uses are still completely practical. Hover variants of these transports designed to travel over many varieties of terrain are instead preferred, sought after as capable of performing tasks and moving cargo much more effectively than their truly land-bound cousins.

Security
Most security systems throughout the 'Verse are hidden in many common locations. Most well-known is video cameras being hidden behind cortex video-screens in public viewing areas. Depending on the planet some of these may even incorporate retinal scanning technology. This is the most often used high-tech means of recognizing an individual with a click of a button. There are means that can be used to combat retinal identification, such as lenses for glasses that disrupt the scanners. However when used this can usually be readily identified as the method used, and once done other techniques will be utilized in attempts to determine the one under scrutiny. If identified officials are normally sent out to detain the user.
